Coffee. You know a good steaming cup of java. Yah that’s right. A cup a day, is just what the doctor ordered. For me that is anyway. I love coffee. Well let me be a little more specific, I love good coffee. You know, as opposed to shit stuff. I am quite picky with my coffee… Just as with my wine, tea, or green juice. I am all about quality. I believe we all deserve the best. Now combine a coffee, with a fabulous cozy atmosphere, a great friend, and some darn good chat on a cold winter’s day – and you got yourself a winning combination.
Here I am back in my little Northern Canadian home town of Hay River,NWT, for a brief visit before I head to Calgary, and in true Petrena fashion, no matter where I am in the world, I like to support local businesses, products, etc. Especially when it happens to be on my childhood stomping grounds. I say especially, only because it’s where I grew up, so it’s special to my heart, but especially is a word I would use for whatever place I find myself around the globe. Local, local, local, to be frank, its just the way I roll.
It was coffee date day with Krystina, one of my life long friends. Being able to say that you have been friends with someone since childhood is something special. Something that a lot of the times you can only say if you are from a small town. I may be a globe trotter, but I do love my small town roots.
She Takes The Cake was the destination of choice, a very cozy, quaint, well decorated, and inviting cafe in town.
The fridges are lined with freshly made and beautifully presented baked goods, and there is daily lunch specials on offer. For a small town the treats here are of some fine damn quality. This time around though we didn’t take cake, we just took coffee. We picked the most inviting table in the place, with one of the best magazines on offer(National Geographic just happens to be one of my faves), took a load off, and preceded to enjoy some laughs and convo(or conversation as some may say).
