An Evening Of Community, Class And Support At The Calgary Stars Gala

I recently had the pleasure of attending the Stars Gala in Calgary, Alberta. Any classy event that brings the community together and supports a great cause will get me every time, and this is an annual event that is exactly that.

For the past seven years, the Calgary dance foundation has held the Stars Gala as a fundraiser to continue to provide instrumental rental and instrumental time for their 75 member Orchestra which is made up of students ages 6 -17. The STARS that participate are various community-minded Calgarians who are trained up with a dancer that is associated with the Calgary dance foundation.

I have a soft spot for Orchestras. The music always ignites the soul.

This year the event was held at the Calgary Polish Club. I was actually very impressed with the venue. I have never visited the Polish Club prior to this event, however, it was absolutely a great location.

They did a fabulous job of decorating for the event. As you walked into the room you were transferred from the ordinary into an elegant ballroom.

The evening began with a beautiful symphony by the young Orchestra whom the event was in support of. Followed by a dance performance by a very young and talented pair. I love seeing the younger generation show so much skill, dedication and talent in beautiful art. Especially at such a young age. Truly incredible.

The dinner consisted of a three-course meal, and of course some vino for your sipping pleasure. It did not disappoint.

Once dinner finished the show of the stars began. Every dance was equally as impressive, especially considering these Calgary Stars are all new to dancing.

Each dancer had their own entourage of support to cheer them on. The winner was chosen by the loudest cheering.

I was there to support Chico(also known as Gerard Carlier, a Calgary RBC investment Advisor).

Originally from France he brought is Gallic flair to his dance of the Ramba with his partner Natalie.

Being new to dancing he absolutely put on an impressive and well-rehearsed show. His hard work, dedication and new found skills shined through. You can see him in action in the video below.

The energy of the evening was very high, and it was fantastic to see people get out of their seats to observe and cheer on the dancers. It was an honour to appreciate the showcase of hard work and dedication it took for each of these community-minded Calgarians to learn their new skill and in support of paving the way for the future generations to continue to have the means to always strive for their goals.
